Today, many different treatment methods can be applied for couples who want to have a healthy child but cannot do this due to some health problems. Considering today’s reproductive treatment options, it can be said that infertility will soon disappear. Namely; Many couples suffering from infertility can have babies thanks to vaccination treatments, ovulation treatments, treatments that regulate hormonal secretion and most of all, IVF treatment. IVF treatment, which has been applied for more than 40 years worldwide, gives very successful results and makes it possible to have a baby in almost impossible cases. Especially in recent years, it has become much easier to achieve pregnancy with extra techniques applied as an aid to classical IVF treatment.
Classical IVF treatment; It is the process of taking the reproductive cells of the woman and the man, fertilizing them in a laboratory environment and transferring the healthiest embryos obtained by fertilization to the womb of the expectant mother. This treatment method has been applied all over the world for about 45 years and successful results can be obtained in many infertility cases. However, thanks to the advances made over the years, in vitro fertilization treatment is supported with new methods and the chance of success increases significantly. For example; With ovulation treatments, the number and quality of the eggs of the woman are increased, the sperm in the semen taken from the male is kept in some special solutions to increase the sperm quality, and fertilization can be achieved with a single healthy sperm thanks to the micro-injection technique. In other words, in vitro fertilization is the most successful technique to assist reproduction, but this success rate and chance increases much more with additional treatment applications. In this context, PRP application, which has been recently started to be applied recently and gives revolutionary results by using it in many areas, also increases the chance of success in IVF treatment. However, there were also cases where it was possible to conceive without the need for in vitro fertilization after PRP. In other words, the effect of PRP on the ovaries has made it possible to conceive naturally.
What is PRP?
PRP (platelet rich plasma), which is a new generation cell renewal and revitalization application, means “blood rich in platelet / platelet cells”. In the PRP procedure, platelets obtained from the person’s own blood, that is, platelet cells and plasma rich in growth factors, are used. When it comes to pregnancy and conceiving, pregnancy can be achieved by applying PRP in the problem of low egg reserve in terms of quality and number, which is one of the causes of female infertility.
Infertility problems may arise due to ovulation disorders and anomaly diseases as the age of women progresses, especially after the age of 35. In such a situation, women may have to give up their desire to have a baby. However, thanks to PRP, an application that can reactivate the ovulation process, there is a chance to conceive even at advanced ages. Namely; When the blood obtained from the woman’s own blood is injected into the ovaries rich in platelets, the growth and development process is reactivated. In any case, no matter how old the woman is or if she has entered menopause, there are still egg cells in her ovaries, but they are passive. With PRP, these passive eggs are activated and fertilization, embryo acquisition and pregnancy are possible thanks to ovulation. PRP initiates a kind of regeneration and repair process in the ovaries and it becomes easier to achieve pregnancy.
How is PRP obtained?
Blood is taken from the person for PRP and this blood is placed in special tubes. These tubes are taken to a high speed rotating centrifuge device. The centrifuge device rotates at a certain speed for a period of time to obtain plasma rich from platelet cells.
How is PRP applied?
PRP application in in vitro fertilization treatment consists of the content rich in thrombocyte obtained from the woman’s own blood; It is the process of injecting the uterine lining into the uterus to reach the desired thickness and into the ovaries to activate the eggs. Because in IVF treatment, when sufficient thickness of the uterine membrane is not obtained, the embryo cannot be attached to the uterus, and the embryo cannot be obtained even if the woman does not have enough viable eggs. For IVF treatment, women with thin cervix are injected with PRP serum obtained from their own blood in addition to IVF, increasing the chance of pregnancy. With this procedure, when the uterine membrane of the expectant mother is thickened, the chance of pregnancy can increase by about 61%.
With PRP, egg quality also increases!
With the in vitro fertilization method with PRP, both the uterus can reach the desired thickness and the egg quality can be increased. Because PRP treatment can increase the egg quality by injecting the rich plasma obtained by separating the platelets from the woman’s own blood into the ovaries according to the need, and can be effective in reactivating the eggs that are now asleep. In other words, this method, which is used to bring the uterine lining to the appropriate thickness in IVF treatment, has the chance to improve the ovarian reserve.
In vitro fertilization PRP support is also given to women with poor ovarian reserve, impaired serum AMH and FSH levels, and who have not had a period for more than 1 year. Serum levels can be normalized at the end of the procedure in women whose ovarian functions are impaired with the injection of blood rich in platelets performed by monitoring with ultrasonography in PRP. In vitro fertilization trials made as short as 2.5 months after this procedure can yield successful results. In IVF treatment, especially the egg collection process, results in more successful results in women with PRP. In this regard, experts think that the PRP procedure is important in increasing the success of IVF treatment.
In which patients can PRP be performed?
PRP procedure is performed by re-injecting the content rich in platelets obtained from the person’s own blood, and it is aimed to have a cellular vitality, awakening and regeneration in the injection area. This procedure is applied to women who are found to have insufficiently thickening of the uterine lining and women with serious problems in their ovaries and successful results can be obtained. In addition, it can be applied to women who have previously undergone in vitro fertilization and have not been successful or women whose ovarian reserve has decreased significantly due to advanced age. In addition, PRP is an appropriate procedure and a correct treatment option for women who are still in the period of menopause but whose ovarian functions can be resumed.
How is IVF followed after PRP?
Among women who receive PRP treatment, first of all, those who have never had a period should use a menstrual regulator.
While the first doctor’s control after PRP is usually in the second menstrual period, in some cases the doctor may request control during the first menstrual period.
After PRP, the doctor usually calls for control between the 2nd or 3rd days of menstruation.
Prior to the doctor’s control after PRP; It is aimed to evaluate the ovaries ultrasonographically and to monitor whether the egg sacs are monitored in women who did not have an egg sac (follicle) before.
In some cases, it is desirable to evaluate the blood and hormone levels of the woman simultaneously.
If a significant response cannot be observed in the controls after PRP, a re-examination may be recommended for monitoring in the next menstrual periods.
Successful results of the PRP process can be possible by not interrupting the doctor’s controls and following the doctor’s recommendations.
